This Lakeland Whataburger is now occupied by Hungry Howie's. This building style might have been confined to Florida. There are other examples around including another one in Lakeland, FL, Ruskin, FL, Fort Meade, FL, and Seminole, FL. For more, see this website.
This Oxnard Whataburger probably looked like this Phoenix, AZ location originally. Whataburger built some locations in California in the late 1970s but pulled out by 1987. This location was later renamed Lot-A-Burger. I don't know if it was part of the New Mexico based Blake's Lot-A-Burger chain. As far as I know, Blake's did not have locations in California. Blake's is famous for its green chile hamburgers and this Oxnard location is remembered for its jalapeno burgers. So it's possible that it might have been part of the chain or just a copycat. This restaurant is now known simply A-Burger. |
