TEXAS: ICE BOXES & LATER

former Texaco station
Dimmit, TX

This former Texaco station appears vacant now.

King's Texaco
Gonzales, TX

King's Texaco has been here since 1940. It is still a functioning gas station.

former Texaco station
Raymondville, TX

This former Texaco station is another example of the company's finned canopy.

former Texaco station
Pearsall, TX

Another example of a finned Texaco station. This one appears to have been vacant for awhile.

former Texaco station
Van Horn, TX

Yet another example of a finned Texaco station. This one is use as Raul's Diesel, a garage.

former Texaco
Vega, TX

This former Texaco on Route 66 might still be used as a bar/club or possibly a residence.

former Texaco station
Austin, TX

This former Texaco station has been occupied by Sledd Nursery since 1978. The building retains its red stars and double-finned canopy. For more, see their website.

W.B. Cheek Gulf
Hillsboro, TX

W.B. Cheek Gulf, aka "Old Corner Gulf" and "Burkhart Motors", is from the 1940s. It has been restored and features lots of fun petroliana. It is still used as a service garage. For more, see this website.

former Gulf station
Denton, TX

This former Gulf station has some Gulf-related memorabilia in the office. The building doesn't seem to be in use. For more old Gulf stations, see this website.

former Gulf station
Colorado City, TX

The former Colorado City station appears to have been a Gulf. The service bays are hidden behind a brick addition.

former Gulf station
Dallas, TX

Part of this former Gulf station was incorporated into a Wachovia Bank. The station had been home to Lakewood Furniture before this. Then in 2007, the former gas station office was converted into ATM machine space while the service bay building was demolished. The rest of the bank's new building has a porcelain enamel look to match the station. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

former station
Waco, TX

This former station appears to be abandoned. Does anyone know what brand might have been sold here or when it was built?

Phillips 66 station
Snyder, TX

This Phillips 66 station, now known as Bill's West Side 66, is still pumping Phillips 66 gas. For more, see this website.

former station
Waco, TX

This former station has a double-winged canopy. This design suits the station's location on the Waco Traffic Circle.

former station
Plainview, TX

This former station is now occupied by Mr. Payroll, a check cashing place. Originally, this was a Fina station from around 1963-1964. The same design was used in Canada by Petrofina in the late 1950s. I'd love to know the locations of any still-existing "mushroom stations" like this. For more, see this website. [info thanks Wayne Henderson]

former Mobil station
Dallas, TX
Chevron station
El Paso, TX

This former Mobil station is now the Green Spot Market & Fuel. Although new pumps have been installed, three Eliot Noyes designed mushroom-style canopies have been preserved. The only other examples of these that I know of are in Hamden, CT and Denton, NC. For more, see this website.

This Chevron station features a mid-century looking canopy. I saw a few of these around in TX and CA. Does anyone know the brand of gas that originally produced these?
