former State Capitol Bank Oklahoma City, OK |
The State Capitol Bank was designed in 1962 by Robert B. Roloff who also designed the Gold Dome. According to Roloff, the bank president who commissioned it wanted it "more like a cocktail lounge than a bank". These futuristic pods are now used by Arvest Bank. However, there has been some unfortunate updating in recent years. The roofs have been elevated, plate glass areas filled in, and the freestanding "mushrooms" have been consumed by building additions. The interior looks to have some interesting, original features but, alas, no cameras were allowed. For more, see this website.

Chase Auto Bank Tulsa, OK |
This Chase Auto Bank was built in the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is a remarkably intact complex of mid-century structures. I don't know who the original tenant was but I believe it has always been the Auto Bank, focusing on in-car service. There are a number of lanes, toll booth-style, at ground level under the main green building that appear to be original and at least partially still in use. The upstairs, now apparently vacant (last two photos above taken through the glass windows), seems to have been used for pedestrian customers and offices. If anyone knows anything more about this place, I'd love to hear from you. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The Central Motor Bank designed by Wright & Selby and built in 1959. At the time, it claimed to be the world's largest motor bank, capable of serving 5,000 customers per day. It was last used by Bank One. The property is currently for sale and the fate of the two structures is unknown. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
