Overnight Delights

NEW YORK (page 1)

abandoned cabins
Route 20, Carlisle, NY

These abandoned cabins vary in size and are quite overgrown. Delightfully, the painted-on advertisement "Cabins" still remains. Route 20 was the main east/west road through New York State until 1954 when the Thruway was built. For more about Route 20, see this website.

These two abandoned cabins are across the street from those shown above. They were probably part of a larger cluster. These remaining cabins stand behind a flea market/pony ride place.

former Commodore Cabins
Sharon Springs, NY

The former Commodore Cabins have been around since at least the 1940s. They closed in the early 1960s. There are 24 cabins remaining behind a large main building which functioned as an office, restaurant, and residence. Some of the cabins were doubles, with a total of 31 units.

Otsego Diner & Motel [closed]
East Springfield, NY

The Otsego Diner & Motel was built in the 1930s and has six small single-room cabins, 2 larger multi-units, and hydrangeas gone wild. The restaurant now has moss on the roof and a "for sale" sign in the window. The faded neon sign reads: "Diner, Motel, Gifts, Heated."

This is another big group of abandoned cabins set on a large property.

Cedar Rest Motor Court [closed]
west of Richfield Springs, Route 20, NY

The Cedar Rest Motor Court, previously known as the Cedar Rest Cabins, was built in 1925. It has about six units that are in better shape than the ones described above.

Sunset Cabins
Oswego, NY

The Sunset Cabins were built in the 1940s. The cluster of cabins is cute and well-maintained. The property also has an RV campground and is right across the street from Lake Ontario and Rudy's. For more, see their website.

Swiss Village
Oswego, NY

These two cute units are part of what was once known as the Swiss Village (no sign identifies the place). On the property now is a much less interesting group of larger boxy cabins. At one time, there must have been more of these A-frame type structures.
