The Bluebird Lodge & Cottages features this neon bluebird on top of its plastic box sign. The motel and sign were built in 1984. The cottages were added from 1991-1992. Since this sign is so new, I would imagine that the neon musical notes at the top are still lit at night.
The McKee Sewing Center has only been here since the mid-1980s. I suspect that these signs are much older than that. The hillbilly sign may have had a moving arm or leg originally like this one. The Faubus Motel sign appears to be from the 1950s. |

The Elephant Car Wash chain was founded in 1951 in Seattle, WA. They now have about ten locations in the Seattle area and another in Rancho Mirage, CA. They all have versions of this pink elephant sign. I don't know of any other Elephant Car Washes outside of WA or CA. This photo was taken in 2010. Shortly thereafter, I heard that this place had closed. Does anyone know if it has reopened or is gone now? For more, see their website.
The Family Shoe Store sign features a Poll-Parrot Shoes design. This store has been here since at least the 1960s. Poll-Parrot produced children's shoes. There are only a few of this company's signs left including these in Las Vegas, NV, Atlanta, GA, and Barnsdall, OK. Marie's Package Store (liquor store) sign appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. This Daisy BB Guns sign was built in 1960. The BB and target rings inside the letter "D" are animated. The sign was restored in 2007. For more, see this website. |

The Downtown Inn sign probably had neon and different text (Motel?) where the plastic box is. This motel is closed.
Hendrix Shoes features this Buster Brown Shoes sign. Once common, there are very few of these left now. The neon on the Hudson Pharmacy sign appears to be in good shape. The neon pestle was designed to move back and forth. |

The Coleman Pharmacy sign features an animated pestle. The neon appears to be in good shape.
This Razorback Hog sign is a reference to the University of Arkansas sports teams' mascot. This sign once advertised for Razorback Salvage and has been here at least 20 years. The property is now owned by Russell Auto Group. The Lake Atkins sign features a neat add-on fish. The Lou's Fresh & Smoked Meats sign probably had neon at one time. I saw another of these signs in Arkansas so I suspect this was part of a meat market chain. |

The Hawkins Company has been around since 1947. This sign is probably from then.
The Swan Motel had a 1950s-looking, all neon sign previously with a much larger swan. It was probably replaced with the combination plastic and neon sign in the 1960s. The first photo is from 2008. By 2012 (second photo), the sign had been replaced with a plastic one. Jack's Skateland opened here in 1962. The text on the sign originally read "Roller Skating" and might have been neon. For more, see this website. |

The White Spot Cafe opened in the early 1950s. It became Skinny's White Spot Cafe around 2008. That part of the sign was added then. It is lit at night. For more, see this website.
The Guaranty Abstract & Title Co. appears to be from the 1950s or most likely earlier than that. From the unusual and modern mounting of the sign between two square poles, I would guess that the company moved to this location and brought this sign with them. |

The Bottle Shop sign was restored in 2008. It is lit at night. This photo is from 2011. Does anyone know when this sign was built?
The Buhrman-Pharr Hardware Company was founded in 1908. When it closed, the building was converted into residential lofts. The sign is still lit at night. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. This Kaiser-Frazer car dealership sign hangs above the Tex-Ark Antique Auto Museum. It came from a former business in town. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. BJ's Liquor features a great old sign with a style more typical of supermarkets. The Holiday Bowl has been around since the 1950s. The sign is still lit at night. For more, see this website. Watson's Shoes is gone but this sign remains. For more, see this website. |
