Western Hills Motel
Flagstaff, AZ

The Prescott Valley Motel is still in business and maintains this nice, old sign.

The Thunderbird Motel is also still open and on the main drag (Deuce of Clubs) in the commercial/tourism capital of the White Mountains.

Horne Chevrolet still features this nice neon blade sign. I believe it is probably from the 1930s, as its style resembles the signs at Pope Motor Company from that era.

The Western Hills Motel opened in 1960. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Downtowner Motel
Flagstaff, AZ
Pow Wow Trading Post
Holbrook, AZ

The Downtowner Motel opened as the "Nackard Inn" in 1933. I believe the radio tower sign has been there since the beginning. It became the Downtower in 1935. In 1995, the property became the "Grand Canyon International Hostel". For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

The Pow Wow Trading Post sign was altered as the store was originally a motel. For more, see this website.

closed motel
Holbrook, AZ

The Holbrook Inn was built in 1965.

The former Navajo Motel was most recently Mountain Edge Tapes - but that, too, has closed. [photo thanks Glenda Campbell]

The Plainsman Coffee Shop has a nicely-kept, giant rifle sign. For an older image, see this link.

The closed motel and abandoned sign are on Holbrook's old Route 66 strip with many other oldies in various conditions.

The Golden Moon Palace was built in the 1960s.

The Hong Kong Restaurant sign is still lit at night. For more, see this website.

My Florist Café now occupies a former flower shop and maintains the original animated rooftop sign. The Café is a wine bar with gourmet food, a bakery, and entertainment.

The Cheese N Stuff Deli opened in 1949 and features this big rooftop globe-shaped sign. For more, see this website.

Hinkley's Lighting Co.
Phoenix, AZ

Hinkley's Lighting Co. was founded in 1910. This sign is on the side of their building. They have another neat candelabra sign on the roof over the entrance but my photo came out way too blurry. I'll try to get another one next Fall. For more, see their website.

Windsor Hotel
Phoenix, AZ
Western Exterminator
Phoenix, AZ

The Windsor Hotel looks to be from the 1920s or 1930s.

The Western Exterminator pest control company was founded in Los Angeles, CA in 1921. They now provide service throughout CA, NV and AZ. Their "Little Man" icon was created in 1931. He was originally named "Kernel Kleenup". The Phoenix location opened in 1971 and put this sign/statue on their roof around 1974. They also have Little Men on its vehicles and mounted on a trailer - is he used in local parades or community events?

Western Exterminator has other offices with Little Man signs in Los Angeles, CA; Long Beach, CA; Las Vegas, NV and most likely other locations. Does anyone know of other locations with these signs? For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

Relax Inn
Phoenix, AZ

Paris Laundry & Dry Cleaning features a great mid-century drive-thru canopy.

The Log Cabin Motel opened in 1939 as the Log Cabin Aurto Court. It once had a water wheel, a sportswear shop, a shuffleboard court and a putting green. For more, see this website.

Not much is left of the America Automotriz used car lot sign but the roadrunner. For more, see this website.

The Deer-O Salsa sign originally read P-A-I-N-T-S before it became a dance club. The building appears to be vacant now.

The Relax Inn sign was repainted sometime between 2005 and 2008. I don't know if this was the original business name. For more, see this website.

Chicago Hamburger Co.
Phoenix, AZ
Courtesy Chevrolet
Phoenix, AZ

The Chicago Hamburger Co. opened in 1981 although the sign looks older than that. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Courtesy Chevrolet first opened in 1955 and then moved here in 1957, when I assume this sign was built. The sign is not only huge but wonderfully animated. For more, see their website.

Bill Johnson's Big Apple Restaurant
Phoenix, AZ

Bill Johnson's Big Apple Restaurant
Mesa, AZ

Bill Johnson's Big Apple Restaurant has seven locations in the Phoenix area. I don't know how many others have these big, old neon signs (which are lit at night). This Phoenix located was the original one which opened in 1956. The Mesa restaurant must have opened around the same time. The diorama above the entrance of the Phoenix location looks original. They feature BBQ and Old West décor. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.
