Best Jewelers
Rossville, GA
Masonic Temple #105
Dalton, GA
DiPrima's Shoes & Boots
Calhoun, GA
Best Jewelers has a nice, big blade sign. Even if the neon is broken, the sign is kept brightly painted. The building is from about 1930 while the sign is from the 1950s.

This Masonic Temple features a nice neon sign that is lit at night. For more, see this website.

DiPrima's Shoes & Boots opened here in 1960. The sign looks older than that which makes me wonder if it has been adapted from a previous business.

Candlelight Motel [gone]
Columbus, GA
Pussy Cat Lounge
Columbus, GA
This photo of the Candlelight Motel sign is from 2005. By 2009, the motel was replaced with a Taco Bell. I don't know if the sign was saved. For more, see this website.

My guess is that this Pussy Cat Lounge sign is from the 1970s or later. Does anyone know when this place opened?

Pipe Corner
Atlanta, GA
Kennedy and Cohen
Atlanta, GA
The Bootery
Atlanta, GA
Pipe Corner is long gone but this sign remains. I believe the Royal Cigar Co. is still in business but moved to another part of town. For more, see this website.

The Kennedy and Cohen appliance store is now gone but the huge sign is still visible from the interstate. There is now a Kenco Mini Storage in its place.

The Bootery is a downtown hold-out. For more, see this website.

Majestic Shoe Repair
Atlanta, GA
Goody's Kodak
Atlanta, GA
Prince Hall Grand Lodge
Atlanta, GA
Majestic Shoe is another old business downtown.

Goody's Kodak is long gone but the double-sided sign remains.

The Prince Hall Grand Lodge was built in 1937. This sign was restored around 2008. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Coca-Cola
Atlanta, GA
Cooper Music
Atlanta, GA
Blue Bird Service Center
Atlanta, GA
This neon Coca-Cola sign was built to be viewed from I-85. Does anyone know how long it has been here? In 2003, the more famous Coca-Cola sign was installed downtown. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Cooper Music's giant piano sign is visible from I-85. Cooper Music was founded in 1906. This sign is from 1983. For more, see their website.

The Blue Bird Service Center was established in 1939. There were three of these giant neon bluebirds. This one remained mounted on the former gas station building in 2010 when this photo was taken. However, I understand that is has been removed and is now leaning against the side of the building while the owner debates what to do with it. The two others bluebird signs were installed on the roof on a huge, two-sided "Truck Stop" sign visible from Memorial Drive (later I-20). This sign was removed in 1994 and I don't know if either of bluebird sign was saved. At some point, the gas pumps were removed and the building has been used for a variety of businesses. The most recent is/was Astro Bail Bonding. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Bill Chambers Motors
Albany, GA
Carling Black Label
Albany, GA
Quail Motel
Blakely, GA
Bill Chambers Motors has been here since the 1950s. For more, see their website.

This giant Carling Black Label neon sign stands next to the Oglethorpe Lounge. I have not seen any others like this.

The Quail Motel sign appears to be from the 1950s.

Giles Builders Supply [removed]
Albany, GA
Chief Vann Motel
Chatsworth, GA
The "Mr. Builder" sign was installed on the roof of Giles Builders Supply when they opened in 1953. The sign features red, white and blue neon and Mr. Builder's hammer moves up and down. Giles closed in 2009. In 2010, a new company moved into the building and the sign was donated to the Thronateeska Heritage Foundation. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

The Chief Vann Motel was built around 1955. It had been abandoned for many years after a couple of devastating fires. The motel was demolished in 2009, however, the sign still remains. The Indian's arm used to wave at passing motorists. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Maryland Fried Chicken
Albany, GA
Maryland
Fried Chicken
Swainsboro, GA

Maryland Fried Chicken
Augusta, GA
This Maryland Fried Chicken, a defunct Southern chain, has a nicely preserved sign and building. The owner is a Grateful Dead fan and has decorated the interior with a hippie theme. This location has also added a giant rooster. For other locations, see this page.

The Swainsboro location has another old sign.

The Augusta location is a more traditional example of the chain's exterior.
