Circle Inn [gone]
Dallas, TX
Sigel's
Liquor Store
Dallas, TX
Lucas
B&B Restaurant [gone]
Dallas, TX

Centennial Liquors is a Dallas chain with about 20 locations. They have been around since 1937. This 25' tall sign is a tribute to Big Tex and may have been influenced by Vegas Vic et al, too. The original 1950s sign was destroyed by a storm in 1985. This replica is now landmarked by the City of Dallas. For more, see their website.

The Circle Inn was still open for business in 2003. However, the building was demolished in 2005 and the sign was removed.

Sigel's Liquor Store was founded in 1905 and has nine locations in Dallas. Sigel's is an upscale liquor store with fine wines and cigars. This late 1950s sign is at the modern-looking, renovated #7 store. The sign is out of compliance but "grandfathered" by the city to protect it. For more, see their website.

The Lucas B&B Restaurant sign survives though there is a Pappadeux Seafood Kitchen on the property now.

Glo Cleaning System
Gaston Ave.
Dallas, TX
Glo Cleaners
North Abrams
Dallas, TX
Baccus Cleaners
Sunnyvale St.
Dallas, TX

There are/were at least three Glo Cleaning System locations in Dallas. The Gaston Ave. location is closed and no longer has this wedding cake style sign. The North Abrams location opened in 1940 and is still open. For more, see this website. The Sunnyvale St. location has changed names but retains the Glo wedding cake.

There is another Glo Cleaners in Springfield, MO that must have been part of this same chain. Google lists other locations in Fort Worth, TX; Mesquite, TX; and Seattle, WA but I don't know if they have old signage. Does anyone know more about this chain?

Keller's Hamburgers
Dallas, TX
Womack Machine Supply
Dallas, TX
Raven's Nest
Pharmacy
Dallas, TX
Midway Liquor
Dallas, TX

Keller's Hamburgers opened in Dallas in 1950. They have two locations in Dallas - both with car hops, canopies, and this sign. There were at least three other locations at one time.

The Womack Machine Supply Company has been around since the 1950s. For more, see their website.

The Raven's Nest Pharmacy's giant raven spins with the wind. I'm sure it rotated at one time.

The Midway Liquor sign is still lit at night. For more, see this website.

Magnolia Building
Dallas, TX
Luna's Tortilla Factory
Dallas, TX
Sunshine Laundry
Dallas, TX
Snyder's Furniture
Dallas, TX

The Magnolia Building, office tower for the Magnolia Petroleum Company, was built between 1921-1922. In 1934, they erected a Flying Red Horse (a Pegasus) which was their company's trademark. The double-sided, 40' x 30' neon sign rotated on its oil derrick-like tower. In 1976, the building was sold and the Pegasus fell into disrepair. In 1997, the building was converted into a luxury hotel. In 1998, the Pegasus was taken down for restoration but had to be completely rebuilt. The sign was reinstalled in 2000. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Luna's Tortilla Factory began production here in 1938. Today, their store sells fresh tortillas, tamales, chips, pico de gallo, and hot sauce. The sign of a woman grinding corn is from around 1947. The neon does not work at this point and local ordinances forbid its repair. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Sunshine Laundry & Dry Cleaners and Snyder's Furniture are both still open.

Waterfall Billboard
Dallas, TX
Texas Paint & Wallpaper
Dallas, TX

The Waterfall Billboard was built in 1962 and is still in use. The 800 square foot sign is visible from the Stemmons Freeway (I-35). It features a 35' tall waterfall which recycles 10,000 gallons of water and includes hay bales and plastic rocks. It originally advertised for Pearl Beer and in 1973 it was converted for Salem Cigarettes. Today, it advertises Coors Light and Dallas sports teams. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Texas Paint & Wallpaper has been around since 1947. They now have five locations around the Dallas area. This sign is at their downtown location. For more paint can signs, see this page.

Anchor Motel
Dallas, TX
Jarrell Company
Dallas, TX
Kroger
Dallas, TX

The Anchor Motel sign is a nicely maintained oldie.

Jarrell Company has been here since 1964. Their sign is topped with a Roto-Sphere. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

This Kroger sign is a tribute to the former Dr Pepper plant that was across the street. From 1948-1986, the plant on Mockingbird Lane was Dr Pepper's international headquarters. It was an Art Moderne masterpiece of glass block, angular wings, and a 5-story pylon with a 10-2-4 clock. Although the building was landmarked in 1995, it was bulldozed and replaced with an apartment complex in 1996. The Kroger supermarket is part of the Dr Pepper Station Shopping Center. The Dr Pepper headquarters is now in Plano, TX. There is a Dr Pepper plant building from 1891 in Dublin, TX and another from 1938 in Fort Worth, TX. There is a Dr Pepper Museum in Waco, Tx. For more Dr Pepper signs, see this website.

The Crest Motel and the Landmark Lodge Motel are on a stretch of highway that has escaped the wrecker's ball for now. Both motels are still in operation.

M.L. Leddy's Boots & Saddlery has been making world-famous custom boots and saddles here since 1941. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

Peter Bros. Hats has been in business since 1911. For more, see this website.

Caravan Inn
Fort Worth, TX
Red Goose Shoe Store
Fort Worth, TX
Lone Star Gas Company
Fort Worth, TX
Champion Spring Service
Fort Worth, TX

The Caravan Inn is still open and features this huge sign. I would imagine it once had neon.

The Red Goose Shoe Store building was built in 1903. It later housed Solomon's Juvenile Shoe Store. The building is now occupied by the Red Goose Saloon. There are other Red Goose Shoe signs in Leesburg, VA and Las Vegas, NV (originally in St. Paul, MN). For more, see these websites: 1, 2, and 3.

This gas flame sign is on the roof of the Lone Star Gas Company building. The 1929 building now houses the City of Fort Worth Water Department. The "Blue Flame" was installed around 1957 and was once lit with neon. The sign rotated and flickered. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2.

Champion Spring Service has been here since 1928. Their sign features a leaf spring and a shock absorber (car buffs, please correct me if I'm wrong!).

Williams
Ranch House Bar-B-Q
Fort Worth, TX
B&B Cut Rate Liquor
Fort Worth, TX

Although this windmill sign is still there, I'm pretty sure that Williams Ranch House Bar-B-Q is now closed. For more, see this website.

B&B Cut Rate Liquor features a wonderfully maintained sign.
