Lammes Candies opened in 1885. They had the first neon sign in Austin and the first soda fountain in Texas. They now have nine locations. This location and signage on Airport Blvd. is from 1957 where they produce 2,000 pounds of candy per day. For more, see these websites: 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Groovy Automotive, an auto repair shop, opened in 1993. In 2002, they opened a Lube Center in Austin with a similar sign. For more, see their website. EZ's features another nice modern neon sign. The The Continental Club opened in 1957 as a supper club with acts like Tommy Dorsey and Glenn Miller. In the 1960s, it was a burlesque club. It the late 1970s, it resumed featuring musical acts. In 2000, they opened a Houston location. For more, see these websites: 1 and 2. Club De Ville is a nightclub featuring live music and a limestone grotto outdoor patio. In the 1990s, this place was "Chances", a lesbian bar. I suspect this sign is old and has been modified over the years to reflect changes in tenants. |

The Grove Drug Store occupied this building from 1933 until the early 1980s. The Morley Brothers drug store preceded that - the original occupants in 1874. The Tropic Shop sign remains in place though the furniture store is long gone. They sold wicker and rattan furniture.
